FAQ

What is a ceramic bearing?

The ceramic bearing is just like a normal bearing, instead they are using ceramic made balls instead of etc. steel. The ceramic bearings are much tougher than the steel and creates less friction in the bearing. This means that it needs less maintenance and can make you just a bit faster. But they are very expensive. Shifting out all your bearings for ceramic bearings from a company like CeramicSpeed it can easily cost you 1000 Euro's or more.

What is carbon fibre?

Carbon fibre consists of many small graphite fibers that are combined in many layers which in the end get some strong industrial glue. It makes carbon fibre very strong, and therefore your bike, wheel etc. can become lighter, because you need a smaller amount of carbon fibre than steel or aluminium, to make it just as tough and hard as the others. The most expensive and lightest frames are made in carbon fibre. Over the years though, the small graphite fibers will crack and therefore the lifespan of a carbon made product dependents heavily on the way it has been ridden and taken care of. You can for example take a look on the 3000 Euro Scott Foil 10 frame we have been reviewing, by clicking here.

What is aluminium?

Aluminium is a natural occurent element. It was once the most expensive thing in the world measured in price per weight unit, but today it is very cheap. everything from sodacans to bikeframes are made in aluminium. Aluminium got the great ability that you get great strength and stiffness for the money. But a bikeframe made in aluminium does weigh some few hundred grams more than a similar one made in the more expensive carbon fibre.
